What caliber of bullet gives the best ballistic co efficient comparing the same weight boat tail bullet?
style (boat tail+ secant ogavee) and (weight) - within 5 grains must be the same.
Your question is too general for a simple answer because ballistic coefficient changes with velocity and the method used to calculate the BC.
Almost all bullets with a secant ogive (note the spelling) and a boattail are target bullets or expensive hunting bullets made to match standards. The secant ogive provides flatter trajectory and reduced wind drift compared to the tangent ogive used in most ordinary bullets. The tangent is easier to manufacture and more than adequate at normal hunting ranges and in match competition out to 300 yards. You can begin by comparing the BC tables from bullet manufacturers such as Sierra and Berger. Some of this is availalbe online. Generally speaking the highest ballistic coefficients for bullets that are useful in practical calibers will be for long, heavy-for-caliber bullets such as the Sierra Matchkings in 6mm and .224 calibers. High BCs are possible with larger calibers, but such bullets are too heavy for the case capacity of practical sporting and target cartridges and thus cannot be pushed to useful velocity. An example of high BC in a large caliber is .50 Browning, a cartridge that is at the upper limit for a shoulder-fired rifle. No rifle I have seen in .50 Browning is practical for sporting purposes, although they are fun to shoot and perform spectacularly in long-range matches that permit the caliber.
