I am about to build a kit home, does anybody have any information on unscrupulous sellers. Please help me?
If anybody out there has had problems, or knows anybody who has had problems buying a kit home or problems with it being delivered. If there is any kind of problem, not enough screws washers or bolts, broken or damaged pieces, Please share your experience with me, Thanks
Your question sounds like you haven't made the purchase yet, and certainly I agree with one answer who states, Testimonials from any companies customer list, is where I'd be checking first, as well as the general record and stability of the company.
You also didn't ask about any UP SIDES to anyones experience, which could help you make a choice.
Not having any info. on who you might be prospecting, it's difficult to detail here, and companies we haven't experienced.
I'd probably be more concerned with the species of wood, the in house construction/milling methods, and getting a list of supplied materials and hardware in my research, before I worried about it arriving, delivered to my job site. I think I'd also want that info. IS the kit in fact delivered to your job site, or do you have to hire a truck to haul it from a RR depot, etc.
I'd also be reading any paperwork, advertising, etc. PRE purchase, looking for some verbage stating a guarantee, or disclaimers regarding what if's, such as missing hardware, or what's actually included in the package, and/or what if some part of the structure is damaged, the process to correct the problem, and turn around time for replacement, which might hold up construction. You might want to determine, through your research, any pre-delivery site prep needed and a time frame for that, so that your KIT doesn't sit on site for 2 months while the plot is graded, and a slab poured, or a basement dug and constructed.
I'd probably want to know if the company just delivers, or if they go so far as to check permitting/code issues as a customer service, as one Steel House company in TX does.
You also didn't strictly state Wood, which most kit houses are, but there are other alternative materials and structures in kit form, that sell as well.
