why is my aprilia rsv mille clutch lever got such a strong spring?
some people say that there lever is stiff but with my bike it feels more like its got a very strong spring to the point where my hand muscles amost fail trying to hold the lever in at lights ect, please help.
The clutch needs to be heavy as the bike has more power causing more stress on the clutch and drive system. If it had a nice light clutch from a 500cc commuter it would shatter every time you changed gear. the heavy clutch stops it slipping under heavy throttle which would result in loss of power to the wheel.. You could try buying a slightly longer clutch lever, this would increase the "lever" or leverage applied. Try holding the lever towards the outer tip at lights this should feel slightly lighter, as you lever is greater. Now this will only make sense if you understand the "lever effect".
The same applies to cars, typically a car with more power will have a heavier clutch. Try driving a Lamborghini in stop start traffic, you left leg will be falling off. It is the price you pay for high spec machines.
